Engagement rings are still very traditional in the west and are a sign of betrothal to your loved one. Most people usually get engaged a couple of years before they intend to marry and will usually choose a ring design that will look good set against a wedding ring. Choosing an engagement ring is a big event for any woman but many men too these days opt to wear an engagement ring.
The traditional choice is still a diamond engagement ring but budgets often limit the choice and in particular the size of the diamond. The solitaire (single diamond) is still a firm favourite as is the 3 diamond ring which is meant to signify I Love You. The cast precious metal designs made from white or yellow gold are still popular but platinum is now usually beyond most peoples budget. Silver is not really recommended as it is the softest of the precious metals.
There are now many more styles and designs available to fit within everyone's budget. The choice has been extended because of the use of non precious metals such as titanium and zirconium which can be fashioned into contemporary designs which will be both hard wearing and attractive. These metals can also be set with diamonds and matching wedding bands can be made at a later date.
