Titanium Rings - More Facts and Information |
|
We normally think that the strongest of all metals for jewellery making is platinum the alternative choice to gold but did you know that titanium is used for making rings and hence takes the mantle of the toughest of them all. Titanium is used widely in the aeronautics and Space industry because of its excellent strength. The Space Shuttle is constructed partly from titanium components to protect it in space. Back to earth titanium has become attractive to designers due to its high resistance to corrosion. Fluids that have corrosive properties include solvents and human sweat. This therefore means that titanium will far outlast jewellery made from gold or platinum. Another advantage is that titanium is hypoallergenic meaning that whilst silver or gold may react with your skin titanium won't. As a result of these properties titanium is used in surgical procedures and even medical implanting operations. The body will not reject titanium. However at Love2Have it is the use for jewellery that interests us including items for piercing. As a piece of jewellery titanium is also quite scratch resistant when compared to gold. Its has the highest strength-to-weight-ratio of all metals. It is also light in weight and therefore very comfortable to wear. |
