Traditionally it was always the woman that wore an engagement ring but it has become much more common place these days that men also want to wear an engagement ring. The requirements for mens engagement rings are different to those for women. Men tend to be harder on their jewellery so the metal needs to be considered carefully and it is better to opt for a more hard wearing metal. Obviously the harder precious metals such as platinum and gold, can be expensive but metals such as titanium, zirconium or stainless steel offer durable alternatives and these metals can be fashioned into many unusual mens engagement ring designs.

It is important when choosing a ring that you will hopefully be wearing for a long time that you consider the style and design carefully and pick something that won't date quickly. Choose a width that will be comfortable when worn for long periods. Very wide rings are not always a good choice. Remember that you will need to look after your ring so if you are going to be doing heavy manual work such as gardening or handling metal tools, take off your ring and store it somewhere safely. All metals will scratch over time so your ring will take on a new look but no metal will ever stand up to being continually battered.
